Aluminum processing fundamentals
Aluminum is a ductile and lightweight material, but processing extruded profiles requires specific machines: carbide-tipped blades with controlled hydraulic feed, continuous mist lubrication and precise clamping systems to avoid deformations during cutting. Even small vibrations can compromise the surface quality of anodized or painted profiles.
From cutting to specific machining operations
The aluminum processing workflow involves multiple stages, each with specific requirements.Profile cutting
Double head cutting machines with Ø450, Ø550 and Ø700 mm blades enable simultaneous cuts at any angle with CNC control and cutting list import from PC. Single head cutting machines offer flexibility for custom operations and small batches. Automatic cutting centers handle the complete cycle unattended, from cutting list to finished pieces.
Milling and drilling
CNC machining centers handle milling and drilling on multiple sides without repositioning the profile. Copy routers replicate recesses on template with consistent precision piece after piece. End milling machines prepare profile ends with a high-quality finish for 45° and 90° joints.
Assembly and positioning
Assembly benches provide a stable and ergonomic surface for window frame assembly. Crimping machines close the corners mechanically. Length stop systems ensure repeatable and precise positioning before every cut.
Choosing the right machine for aluminum
The choice depends on three main variables.
Profile section
Large profiles such as pergolas and industrial profiles over 150×150 mm require Ø700 mm blades and machining centers with extended working range such as the Raptor 3000. For standard windows, Ø550 mm blades and the Mako machining center cover most needs.
Production volume
For medium-high and continuous production, double head cutting machines with CNC and cutting centers optimize cycle times. For limited volumes or custom machining, single head cutting machines and manual copy routers offer the right flexibility.
Automation level
From fully manual machines to 4.0 Ready configurations with CNC, cutting list management and remote assistance. The choice can be gradual: many OMC machines can be integrated with length stop systems and dust collectors to progressively improve the production flow.
